Short term goals leading to VC in long term [#permalink] New post 21 Oct 2010, 19:01
Hi,

I am an engineer with seven years of experience in telecom industry (software testing). I joined the firm I work for when it was a startup and now it is a successful public company.

I want to use my MBA for a career change. Venture Capital Industry being the niche area I desire to work in. However, I understand that its a very lean industry and jobs are tough to come by especially if you do not have business experience.

Now my question is what are the short term goals that I can articulate in my essay to make a compelling point that they would lead me to a job in VC. I am depending heavily on the experience of working for a startup and my pretty good understanding of telecom industry in absence of any other business experience.
I understand PE in a good area to start with but can my lack of any previous business experience put a hurdle there.
I do not yet have a network in this area to bank on though I am working on it.
Any other suggestions to make a good case for an engineer planning to work in VC are most welcome.
Looking forward to your advice.

Thanks!
