Should I apply to Oxford? (MSc Financial Economics) [#permalink] New post 29 Oct 2009, 12:58
Hi,

I'm currently finishing my bachelor's in Economics and business (specialization: finance). I'm looking at master's programs, and the MSc Financial Economics at Oxford is pretty much exactly what I want to do. I can also do a very similar program curriculum wise for about 1/20th of the price at Erasmus university in Rotterdam. The reason that I ask whether I should apply is that I haven't done the GMAT yet. I don't need to do it for the program in Rotterdam and I don't want to do it needlessly (i.e. if I am not a good candidate anyway) as I am already very busy.

My profile:
- Almost finished with a bachelor's in Economics and business (specialization: finance). Unfortunately I probably won't be able to graduate cum laude. My average grade will approximately be 7.85/10 (although the last year of my studies shows consistent grades of 8s and 9s, the lower average is due to slacking off at the beginning of my studies)
- During university, I worked for 2.5 years as a programmer and then ran my own company for 1 year (unrelated to finance). I am currently waiting to hear back about an internship I applied for at a private equity firm.

Based on the GMAT Prep, I'll probably be able to score in the low 700's if I study for a few months.

If I get that internship, do you guys think I have a (reasonable) chance at Oxford? If not, its not a big deal, the program at Erasmus is good too, I just need to know whether to go through the effort of the GMAT.
