Should I report my GMAT scores, my GRE scores, or both? [#permalink]
10 Dec 2012, 20:49
I have written both tests (once); however, I don't know which one of my scores is stronger, and which one is better to send! Could you please give me your opinion? My target schools want me to send either the GMAT or the GRE, but I am thinking I might send both of them. I am applying for top-tier programs.
My GRE scores (November 2012): GRE Verbal: 162 = 89% - GRE Quant: 167 = 96% - Analytical Writing: 3.5 = 30% Conversion to old GRE scale: GRE Verbal: 630-640 - GRE Quant: 800
My GMAT scores (January 2012): 690 = 88% GMAT Verbal: 37 = 81% - GRE Quant: 47 = 76% - Analytical Writing: 4.5 = 38%
So I have three options:
Option A: To send the GMAT only. In this way, I might "hide" the GRE Analytical Writing percentile (3.5 = 30%ile), which is 20% lower than the GMAT Analytical Writing percentile (4.5 = 38%ile) in comparative terms. However, as they are different tests, I don't know whether this strategy is necessary.
Option B: To send the GRE only. In this way, they would see my higher GRE Verbal and Quant scores (the quantitative score being almost perfect). But, given that everybody knows the GRE is somehow easier than the GMAT, I don't know whether this is worth enough to sacrifice my GMAT Analytical Writing score. I hold a Bachelors degree in Computers Engineering, so I must show a high quant score anyway.
Option C: To send both the GMAT and the GRE scores. With this option, I would hope they are kind enough to focus only on the highest scores from each test. I mean, I hope they focus on the best results: in the GRE, on the higher scores and my almost-perfect Quant; in the GMAT, in the fact that I also have high scores in Verbal and Quant, and the fact that I got 4.5 in Analytical Writing.
Should I go for option A, B or C? Many, many thanks!

Both performances indicate that you're an overall good test taker, so I don't see the harm in presenting both scores. Neither should be a liability. Your AWA score on the GMAT seems fine, but what about the analytical writing section for the GRE? Is your score there considered a liability, or not really? If that's an issue, then I might switch my answer to option A: "just the GMAT score."
