Should I reschedule my GMAT? [#permalink] New post 06 Jun 2013, 14:44
Hi,

I am in confusion whether to take or reschedule the GMAT I have on 18th June.

I have taken two practice tests so far

KAPLAN CAT on 21st April Score 600
GMAT Prep 1 on 6th May Score 630 Q47 V 27 IR 5

After that I somehow lost track and now still struggling to regain the momentum of preparation.
My target score is 680+

Given that there is only a 10 days time, can someone help me out on this?

pavan2185,

It's ultimately up to you to weigh the costs/benefits of a reschedule. How much do you think you can improve within the next ten days? Do you need to take the test before a certain date?

I rescheduled both times I took the exam. Both times I didn't feel adequately prepared and felt that pushing the GMAT back a couple of weeks was worth the 50 dollars.

It depends on how much you believe you can benefit from rescheduling. If you think by rescheduling you will be able to reach your target score vs not rescheduling and having to retake the test, then it makes sense to reschedule.

Hi pavan2185, HImba88 hit some pretty good points in his reply, so I'll reiterate that it's up to you whether it's a worthwhile idea or not, and really only you can make this decision.

A word of caution, I've seen students reschedule and reschedule and reschedule. Once you've done it once, you may be tempted to do it again. If something important comes up, then by all means reschedule. If it's just a question of studying more, then be aware that most people don't feel ready for the test on test day and would always want one more day of studying. However, just be sure that if you're rescheduling it's because you will actually study more and get a higher score. And of course, you don't need to convince me or anyone else, you need to convince yourself. There's nothing wrong with rescheduling, just make sure it's for the right reasons if you do.

Best of luck!
-Ron

Hey Pavan

Don't think too much about it, just take the exam on the day you've scheduled it. When I took mine, three days before the exam I felt that I wasn't ready. I took a practice exam two days before the day of my exam and couldn't get the score because I pressed some wrong key. Then I thought what's the harm in giving it my best shot, worst come worst I'll have to retake it, but if it goes well, I'll save so much time. I wrote the exam and scored 700. Wish you luck!
