should I take GMAT again? [#permalink] New post 01 Sep 2012, 19:48
Hi all,
I just gave my GMAT exam today and here are my unofficial scores -

Quant: 48, percentile 78
Verbal: 34, percentile 69
Total: 680, percentile 85

I did not prepare lot for the exam, only 3 weeks of practice and learning. However, my time management on the test was very poor. I finished my quant with 10 minutes to spare, but what concerns me most is I finished my verbal with 20 minutes to spare! I realize now I shouldn't have rushed through some of the reading comprehension questions and could have done much better if I had allocated more time to those questions :(

What do you guys think about these scores? I am NOT applying to the top graduate programs like Harvard or Columbia so will these scores affect my chances in a negative way?

I appreciate your feedback.

From what I've read, schools basically only look at your best score so I don't think any score could affect your chances in any negative way.

Bottom line, if you think you can do better (with preparation) and you have the time, then you should re-take it. Just my $0.02

You tell us where you're not applying; how about you tell us where you are applying? You're probably more likely to get a scholarship with a 700+ at any school and especially at non top 10. If that makes a difference, you could consider a retake.

I was like you in that I finished sections early and had to learn to slow down and focus. I was able to bring my score up from 670 in practice tests to a 730. My situation was low quant and high verbal though, so I can't necessarily give good advice about improving verbal.

A 680 is a solid score no matter what anyone says as it falls in the middle 80th percent or above for every school. (http://poetsandquants.com/2012/03/27/gp ... -get-in/2/).
