Hey,

I have applied to Simon on Nov 15 (R2), but recommendation was submitted only on 28 Nov. Received app completion email on 29 Nov. My online status still shows Under Review by Adcom. It probably means a ding, right?

Hi Maverick,
The latest Simon MBA class has a good balance with the international students - there are a lot of backgrounds and nationalities (and it is not from just from one or two countries like some other schools). Of course, some of international students are likely to be a bit more quiet than the domestic students, but they are in general very smart, especially in the quantitative area. So they contribute in other ways, and not just with class participation. Since it's the holidays, here's a good youtube happy holidays video from Simon that might show a bit of what I'm talking about

Good luck for your applications, Mav

thanks for the detailed response !

No problem, Mav. Let me know if you have other questions about Simon or other MBA programs (I might know about how Simon compares to other programs).

Punters,
If you haven't received a reject, then your application is likely to be still being evaluated.

Here's one more response, Mav:

Q: why is the tuition fee so high @ simon

A: Although the "list price" might be higher than other schools, the school also has a policy of giving financial support. So I think you should look at the final package, with the financial support.

Q: how would you compare the simon mba program vis a vis other strong finance progs specifically kenan flagler and vanderbilt in terms of long term career success and support...does the simon CMC have any kind of plan/targets for the class of 2015

The goal of the school/CMC is to maximize placement success for every class and get to the levels of placement of top-ranked programs. This response doesn't change for the 2013, 2014, 2015 class and beyond.

Glad to hear that you had the opportunity to talk to J. Manser at the Admissions dept. I think the they are going to set up an Ask Admission - Simon soon, in case you and others have more questions (or post them here).

that would be great... a little late for the current admission cycle..but would be beneficial in years to come !

Hello Prof..

Need some advice.
I have got an admit to Simon with decent scholarship..
Now I have got admits with Scholarships from Illinois as well as BU...

I am not able to finalize as of now...
On one hand, the temptation of doing an MBA with minimal debt from Illinois is immense...
On the other hand, I don't want to miss anything substantial that I will get only at Simon...
Pls Help..

Hi Vunsuk,
Give a bit more info if you can - area of specialization that you are looking for, and how much is the difference in pay for the two years?

Hi Vunsuk,
For reputation and research (which are the areas I know best), I believe that Simon dominates Illinois by quite a bit of a margin.

Thanks for the reply..
To be more specific, I am looking for Strategic Consulting as the area of specialization...
About the difference in pay, I believe you are talking about the Tuition Fees.
So, here it is, If I go with Simon, I will have to pay 30000$ extra as compared to Illinois over a period of 2years...

Consulting (especially IT) is becoming more and more important at Simon in terms of number of students specializing in that area, but that I can't really compare across schools.

About the question, my knowledge of Simon is that they now have a dedicated area in their career services to IT consulting, and a professor that was hired a few years back from McKinsey, specialized in IT consulting (If you want the name of the professor, please PM me). They get Deloitte to go recruit from their students, and Accenture also hired this year from Simon (although I don't know if it was in the IT area), and of course leads to other companies as well.

They do have academic concentrations also specifically in IT, but I know that area less well than the IT consulting.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Arizona State program, so it's not a direct comparison, but I hope this helps nonetheless.

Best of luck!

Thanks so much for your help MarketingProf!
