its from gmatprep and without OE. IMO its a pronoun problem. in all answers ,except for D), the reference of "it" is unclear.

Honnestly I would have chosen D

other sentences are so akward and weird..each one got some pronouns without any reference : "it", "them", ....only D is clear about all the elements

SC tip: the verb being is a stickler to the folks at ETS. If you see it at the end of the underlined portion, 99.99999% of the time it is incorrect. But that isn`t the case here! Simply being.... is a common idiomatic construction, so add it to your list.

Simply being ignorant is not an excuse to break the law.

All other answer choices lack a clear referent fotr "it."
