I’d pick B. Quote: Since the 1930s aircraft manufacturers have tried to build airplanes with frictionless wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly that the air passing over them would not become turbulent.
A. wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly (‘shaped’ could refer to airplanes or manufacturers as well as wings)
B. wings, wings so smooth and so perfectly shaped (nothing wrong. Repeating 'wings' is correct)
C. wings that are shaped so smooth and perfect (should be ‘smoothly’ and ‘perfectly’)
D. wings, shaped in such a smooth and perfect manner (‘shaped in a smooth manner’ - very awkward)
E. wings, wings having been shaped smoothly and perfectly so (I think that ‘so that’ – construction is wrong here. Also ‘having been shaped’ is not needed).

A. wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly >>>Modifier issue.I think we need " wings " after the comma
B. wings, wings so smooth and so perfectly shaped
C. wings that are shaped so smooth and perfect >>>Use of that is incorrect. "wings" is plural
D. wings, shaped in such a smooth and perfect manner >>>same as A
E. wings, wings having been shaped smoothly and perfectly so >>>having been is awkard

in B, will "smooth wings" and "smoothly shaped wings" have same meaning?

Going with B.
In A, "Smoothly" and "Perfectly" describe the "process of shaping" and not the wings.
In other words, smoothly and perfectly modifies the action "shape".

Repeating 'wings' is correct) in B, will "smooth wings" and "smoothly shaped wings" have same meaning? The meaning it a bit different. However, the answer with ‘wings so smooth and so perfectly shaped’ is the only correct form. Here not ‘smooth’ and ‘perfect’ or ‘smoothly’ and ‘perfectly’ are parallel, but ‘so smooth’ and ‘so perfectly shaped’. ‘Smooth’ -> wings ‘Perfectly’ -> shaped ‘Perfectly shaped’ -> wings ‘Smooth’ and ‘Perfectly shaped’ -> wings

Since the 1930s aircraft manufacturers have tried to build airplanes with frictionless wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly that the air passing over them would not become turbulent.
A. wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly smoothly modifies shaped not the wings. here the wings are smooth..that is the reason why air passing over them do not become turbulent. not shaping smooth.
B. wings, wings so smooth and so perfectly shaped .....that the air passing over them would not become turbulent. them refers antecedent wings(second one) correctly..near correct answer. C. wings that are shaped so smooth and perfect them does not refer to secongs wings... also emphasis should be on wings ..not how they are shaped. D. wings, shaped in such a smooth and perfect manner again emphasis should be on wings ..not how they are shaped. also them needs an antecedent to point to E. wings, wings having been shaped smoothly and perfectly so tense is not correct
IMO ...B

They are adjectives not adverbs. Smoothly and perfectly modify the shape so I think they are used here correctly. Smooth and shape are adjective they can not modify the shape. So My pick is A. Whats the OA?
