B. more than had been sighted
C. more than they had sighted

Agree with B. A is out for using which, and so E is also out. C is out for they, not clear who they refers to. D is completely screwed up, more than had reported sighting, who had reported? and had reported sightings is unidiomatic.

Also, B keeps the agreement, have been sighted..........had been sighted. Had is needed to refer to time prior to the movie release and the sighting that occured since the movie release.
