Official Explanation :

Choices A and B are incorrect because are the result from is unidiomatic; result from or are the result of are the idiomatic forms.

Choices B, C, and D are faulty because but is needed to complete the construct ion do not reveal but ( verb ) .

Choice E is the best answer.

Slips of the tongue do not necessarily reveal concealed beliefs or intentions but rather are the result from the competition between various processing mechanisms in the brain.

(A) but rather are the result from

(B) and instead are the result from

(C) being rather the result of

(D) and rather result from

(E) but rather result from

it is not X but rather Y construction.

A - it looks like not reveal but rather are (which is auxialary verb) - incorrect

B - some shift should be there

C- being - incorrect usage

D - and- wrong usage

E - perfect as per our prethink - correct

Hi sudarshan22 GMATNinja GMATNinjaTwo

I successfully eliminated B, C, & D.

Was confused between A and E and opted for E as felt that "are" in option A is not correct because of Singular Plural error with "Slips of the tongue".

Not sure if the way I got answer is correct could you please advise.

Hi Bunuel bb sudarshan22,
I have a doubt, isn't "but" and "rather" are redundant in this sentence?

Not X...but rather Y
It's a correct idiom. To emphasize Y, we use this idiom.

Hello Chitra657,

We hope this finds you well.

Having gone through the question and your query, we believe that we can help resolve your doubt.

The use of "are" is not incorrect in Option A, as it correctly refers to the "slips". The error in Option A is the use of the phrase "result from" in place of "result of"; remember, when the word “result” is used as a noun, the correct, idiomatic usage is “result + of”, and when “result” is used as a verb, the idiomatic construction is “result + from”. "result from" is correct in Option E, because there "result" is a verb.

We hope this helps.
All the best!

You can use "are the result of" (result is a noun) or "result from" (result is a verb).
"are the result from" is not correct.
