Well, last year it was 0%, considering no one was taken off the waitlist.

Well, that's not entirely true, because a lucky handful of R1 waitlisters were accepted last year in R2. Maybe around 10?

Hi all!

I found out that a Sloan MBA student committed suicide last year because of the pressure. I am considering Sloan, but I have to admit that I am shocked at the discovery. All business schools are a lot of work but I never heard about anybody committing suicide at a top business school. Maybe after all, Sloan is not that good? The purpose of business school is to build your network and improve your skill set. How could a business school drive its students to suicide?

I don't think it's fair at all to hold that against MIT. From everything I have read, the pressure is no higher at MIT than at any other top school. So, who is to say that student wouldn't have also committed suicide at another top school had he or she gone there instead?

It is absolutely frightening that you got dinged and waitlisted at all those schools given your stats. Congrats on Tuck though. It's an awesome school.

So my app still says submitted and being evaluated or something like that since pretty much 5 Jan. (I submitted a few hours before deadline on 27 Dec...who am I kidding thanks to my recommenders i submitted 7 minutes before deadline). I assumed I was dinged as that is what happened to my buddy who applied to Stanford and didnt get an interview and he said it just stayed that way all the way until the acceptance day he got a ding letter.

Can anyone else say what their app says? Can we confirm all apps say something about submitted and being evaluated?

thanks

PSUMARKY

I applied in R1, and my app said "submitted and being evaluated" up until the day I got my decision.

Just to give a frame of reference, I applied in R1 and my video was viewed twice in MA, once on November 27 and once on January 10th. I received the interview invite on December 4th and had my interview on January 10th.

Could you, please, share your recent interview experience?
Any tricks from the adcom to trigger behavioral responses?

Every candidate has a unique experience in the interview. And here is why: Based on your application, MIT assigns you scores on specific attributes they want to see in you. The top 20% scorers are invited to interview. Then, your interviewer probes for evidence of the attributes they could not find evidence of in your application (this is where most behavioral questions come in) and/or validates the scores already assigned to you (this is where they try to clarify things you said in your application). In some cases, a lot of time could be spent with the interviewer clarifying something you said in your application, and asking follow-up questions. In other situations, it could be a minute or two on the application, and then the rest is behavioral. In my situation, I was asked a couple of questions about something I had said in my application. My interview was behavioral for the rest of the time. I met other people interviewing on the same day by the same interviewer, and they had very different experiences. However, none of us felt like we got any trick questions. The behavioral questions were straightforward, because they were a version of "Tell me about a time when...". You should sense that they are trying to figure out some attribute based on your response.

We don't know what the attributes are exactly, but you can get a vague idea to prepare for your interview. Read some of the interviews Rod Garcia gave to Poets and Quants or ClearAdmit (I can't remember which). My recommendation is to know your application inside out, and then have a few other stories from your background in mind, stories that you couldn't fit in to the application but would like the adcom to know about. Bring these up in your interview. All the best!

Great advice! I'd suggest having stories prepared for the following topics: failure, success, teamwork, leadership, a difficult coworker, and innovation. Also, be prepared to provide answers in the STAR/SOAR/SAR format (Situation, Task/Obstacle, Action, Result). Really, though, just know your story inside and out. My Sloan interview was the one I had prepared for the most, but we barely touched on any of the questions I had run through beforehand.

Good luck!

Wait-listed - Boston, MA and because sharing is caring, here you go:

"The MIT Sloan MBA Program Admissions Committee has completed its evaluations. The exceptionally strong competition prevents us from including you among those admitted at this time. We can, however, offer you a place on our waiting list.

Each year some candidates who have accepted offers of admission find it necessary to change their plans. The varied nature of these changes makes it impossible to predict whether a place in the entering class might become available before next May, but you can be sure that we recognize the importance of time in your planning. Should it become apparent that we will not have the opportunity to admit candidates from the waiting list, we will be sure to inform you so that you may plan accordingly.

Please go to the Waiting List Information page and indicate before March 8, 2013 whether you wish to accept a place on the waiting list and, if so, the last date on which you would accept an offer of admission. We will also hold a waiting list online chat in early April, and the details are found via the link above.

We look forward to hearing from you."

Any thoughts on wait-lists?

The deadline for deposit for R1 admits is friday 3/8. There may be some WL movement after that.

Sloan is one of the last programs that announces R2 results.
Hopefully, it means that only the hard-core Sloanites are waiting and hoping, while the rest of applicants are excited with their "dream" school offers and let Sloan know about it............
