The rate is not prevalent..it's the disease that is prevalent.
If we want to use "rates"..than sentence should have been "The rates of X and Y are z times than those of population at large"..which is not in options. So A,B and C are out.

In D: one of the error is the wrong usage of "as X as"...."as much as" ...or ..."as prevalent as"

Only E is right.

But isn't E changing the meaning of the sentence, we went from as prevalent as in the population at large to more prevalent that the population at large.
Clearly two different things here

Could anyone please elaborate?
Cheers!

@raghavs - Re-read the entire sentence and try to get out the intended meaning. The sentence states that among the particular group of population X and Y are more prevalent than in the entire population.
Option A, B, C - incorrectly mentions that rates of X and Y are prevalent. It should be X and Y are more prevalent and not their rates.
Option D - prevalent should be used as "prevalent in". Also incorrect usage of "as". It should be "as x as y". Hence incorrect.
Option E - Correct all the errors. Also correctly mentions that X and Y are more prevalent than in Z.
Hope that helps.
