Someone deposited money for his daughter monthly. In each month, he deposited a fixed amount more than in the previous month. First month, he deposited $800;the amount deposited in the seventh month is twice of that in the third month. In each month, he deposited how much more than the previous month?

Assuming each month increases by x dollars
1st month = 800
2nd month = 800+x
3rd month = 800+2x
...
7th month = 800+6x
We're told: 800+6x = 2(800+2x)
800+6x = 1600 + 4x
2x = 800
x = 400

Definitely not 800, that would be 2400 in month 3 and 5400 in month 7
400 is right (1600 in month 3 and 3200 in month 7)
This question can also be done in well under 2 minutes just by plugging in numbers
