Could someone (:)) please explain the difference between using "someone" and "somebody"? I bumped on a few problems concerning this issue, but unfortunately all explanation given has been that "someone" is correct.

I think we use “someone” more often when we have a group of persons in consideration, but we don’t know for sure who the one is. While we use “somebody” when its not that important who the person is.

For Example,
someone has left the door open
We don’t know exactly who left the door open.

somebody has left the door open
We don’t care who left the door open rather than the fact that the door is open.

How much sure are you about this rule on scale from one to ten? :)
Could you please refer to some official source?

Hi HumptyDumpty,

Its not all rule, its just a practice. someone and somebody are interchangeable.

Can you post the SC question, which shows only someone is correct? It will be better to explain this.

We should wait for an expert's reply to this question. I am also bit curious about this.

Generally speaking, someone and somebody are interchangeable. Please post the questions with explanations.

I remember one question from the GMAT Club tests that literally said "<somebody> is wrong" and "<someone> is correct" with no further explanation. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, but I keep searching for this question.
