Hi everyone. I have begun to write my sop and i was wondering how long it should be? I've heard anywhere between 1 and 2 pages single-spaced Times New Roman. I would really appreciate some help. THanks!

it differs between schools. some have word limit (harvard OB had 1000 word limit, LBS required 2 essays of 1500 words each...).
unlike you I heard that the "standard" would be anything between 2-3 pages, and that 1 page is way too short.
so to be safe i'd say make it full 2 pages. singles space (it turns out to be arouns 1000 words)

however - the most important thing is not the length, but rather the structure and readability. i guess that some people that go through your application wiil just skip through your SOP to look for some specific details that interests them (i.e. look how you write on your research experience, or career goals, or whatever...) if they don't find it fast they may go over to the next application.

Hobbit's right. 1000 or so words is about right for an SOP that answers the most pertinent questions: why Ph.D., goals, research interests, etc... I have a self-ranked list of these somewhere based on looking through school applications for the programs that I was considering and counting how many times each question was mentioned. If I can track this down, I'll post it.
