D it is as "growth coming from" sounds absurd
and in E "increasing the population" is incorrect

I'd say the answer is "A". "Conversions" [a noun] has to be paralllel to another noun [population].
Eliminate "B", "E", C" because of lack of parallelism.
What is the OA?

D is the best.
need a verb after "growth" A, B, C out. Instead of is good here, as it modifies population (a noun) correctly.

this one was tricky. Commas made it that way
the underlined sentence is an apposite to the opening (after semi-colon). ...membership expanding...a year. Done. Then, ...growth coming (refers to expanding membership).
it this were an independent sentence, this would have been:
Membership is expanding. Growth is coming from conversions rather than increases in the population.
need to maintain parallism too. Expanding...Coming...
B it is.

I am sure that "A" is wrong.
...coming from conversions rather than the population increasing ...
this is no-way parallel.

I think it's B too.
"instead of" is surely out. And B follows parallelism.

It is A because 'growth is coming from the poulation increasing" looks proper than "growth is coming from the increases in the population". (looking for parallelism)

B was my choice but later got convinced by a few who feel D is the answer.
Used the search tool...got this
http://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7079
Take alook and see why B has been described as the answer.
