Hey,

I have read in many prep books that the square roots in the gmat are always positive. Is this only the sqrt of variables that are presented under the radical in the question stem itself? Please clarify?

Thanks

square root can be positive or negative. In GMAT square roots are often traps, where people forgets the negative.

consider the following cases:

i. x^2 = 4
x = -4 or +4

ii. sqrt (x) = sqrt(9)
x = + 9.

Thanks...
So does that mean we only take the postive root when the variable in stem is under a radical?
