a) same
b) and so could be married to
c) to be married to
d) so that he could marry
e) in order that he would marry

The official answer is D
But I've wondered that how A is ill-established.
Please help explicate this puzzle.

yeah, i think i saw this in OG...i chose D without question...

to me, A makes no sense at all....

if somebody asks you: Why did the King annul his marriage?

would you reply: So that he could marry Catherine.
or would you say: So as to marry Catherine.

-->so as does not make sense in this type of sentence.

no clearer than in the OG.
It is D, because all the others are wrong...

symply does not make sense -- it is so understandable for us, nonnative speakers. no further questions...
