Hey, I am intending to apply for the 2013 intake as well. I have a GMAT of 710 but my bachelor (business management) is a low second upper class. On their website I have not found much information about bachelor requirements except the fact that it weights 30 per cent.

Does anybody know if I can apply for two masters at the same time? I assume the masters taught in german may be less competitive.

Hey fligzz, first of all congratulations on your test results, nice job! :)

Which specific master are we talking about ?
For the MEcon it is: minimum GMAT of 650 and if 680+ = auto-qualified (if, of course, the other requirements are fullflled as well)
In fact the above is true for all master programmes, that have NOT listed any other minimum values for the GMAT on the official website of HSG (you can look them up under the tab 'admission' of the specific programme).

Other programmes, like the SiM, are harder to get into (minimum GMAT of 680, dont know about auto-quali score).

For all masters you'll need a TOEFL of 100 or a similar score in a comparable test.

About your last 2 questions, i can not really tell yet. <--- start in Feb '13

Kind regards.

Still MP II here. Would the people with admission be kind enough to share their GMAT score/GPA?

Hi Pleex,

I scored 750 for the GMAT. My GPA is not very good in the american system it would be around 3.0 but it is from my french engineering degree. I think they only counted in the grades from business classes I took during my exchange program in the US for which I had a GPA of 3.97

Hope you get some good news soon.

:D

If somebody is looking for a room in a flat share (3 people, one girl, me and x) near university (600 CHF includng all costs such as electricity, internet, heating, etc. with furniture but starting in August), you can send me a private message. It would be nice to have another SIM-student in the same flat ;)

Congrats to you guys, I hope this is still the "first round" a+b. Still MPII here, hopefully I will get those 80 points ...
As for the flat, it sounds like something I might be interested in, if I'm accepted I'll contact you !

Good Luck everyone !

For me it is definitely round 1, a+b =75

730 is a stron GMAT, so do not lose the hope.
Good luck

I called the admissions office on Monday and apparently they will continue to communicate decisions until the end of next week. Seems to take longer this year ;)

Where are you from dimissio?

Yea I will, but do you know about employment stats ? Plus We can't work in Germany, Switzerland because of language difficulties.
Do have any information about the course?

hi guys,

i'm thinking about applying for the SIM as it has been ranked #1 in this year's financial times ranking. is there anyone who can provide me with some insider information on the program?
do you think it's comparable to the master in mgt programs of LBS and LSE?

any info is greatly appreciated!

No matter what the rankings say, LBS and LSE are way ahead in terms of reputation and quality. These 2 are world-renowned programmes whereas gallen is a very "GERMAN" university not renowned outside German speaking Europe.
In my opinion, LBS>LSE>HEC>Warwick>...>HSG.

Hi there,

I wouldn't go for an absoulte ranking but say it depends on your profile and what you expect of your studies content-wise.
The MiM programs of LBS and LSE have a great reputation and if you want to start your career in the UK or the US both probably are a good choice. Nevertheless, you should be aware of the fact that these programs are mainly designed for students who have a NON-business undergraduate background as a kind of "MBA at an early career stage". Thus, it depends on your undergraduate studies, with a bachelor in BA you might have heard a lot of the stuff before, so the value added is limited.
The SIM masters at HSG focuses on advanced management studies and leadership development and hence has more elements of a consecutive master's program. It furthermore places a great emphasis on international experience and entrepreneurship. A better comparable to the SIM is probably the MSc in BAC at Warwick, though that program is closely linked to operations research and thus more implementation than strategy focused.
A last note: If money is an issue for you, the SIM probably offers an option to get a general business degree from a reputable university at a bearable cost.

Just send an email to sim@unisg.ch, I sent them a bunch of questions and they were all answered quickly. Apparently it's hard to get in, but there are special provisions for international students, so you might have a chance even though your degree is different - at least worth a try.

what provisions are you speaking about? i didn't find anything about special rules for international students.. do you think they consider as international students just people coming from non-EU countries?

Hi there,

@alexba91: Apparently, they abolished the special regulations regarding international students last year, so everyone is assessed equally, independent of nationality. Sorry for the confusion.

@MarkDM: Don't know if the AWA is relevant for admission, it's not explicitly listed on the score system, but I wouldn't run any risks and fill it out, just in case...

Oh no, I know that you must fill it out, I read that on the website. But if it's not relevant, I'm not gonna prepare at all for it. Rather I would try to improve my chances to get an amazing score!

Did you apply already? If so, can I ask you how it works with the payment of the application fee?
I read some info on the website. If I understand correctly, you have to complete an online application, and then send the required documents.

Thank you Masterstrategist!

Hi!

@AWA: What you're saying makes sense - I personally wouldn't (and didn't) take that risk... I guess if they do read it (which might very well be the case) and you had an amazing score it might not reflect to good on you if your amazing score comes at the cost of a really bad awa. But those are just my two cents....

@Application: Nope. I am still compiling my documents. From what I understand you just sign up online, print the confirmation and send that with all the required docs plus the payment receipt to the university before the deadline. I think the bank details you get after starting that online process ....

Good Luck for your application!
