Can someone tell me if invites come out by city, especially in international locations? I'm panicking because a few people in my city have received it while I haven't

I don't think it does (Based on what I read on last years thread). And more importantly, I don't think anybody on this forum knows for sure. We're all just speculating to keep ourselves occupied. I would not give up hope till the 19th!

Congrats. How did you receive it, by the e-mail or saw it in the applyyourself profile update?

The range of GMAT scores for the class of 2015 is 550 - 790. So, yes, you have a chance.

Maybe I'm spending too much time analyzing this (well, i've got all this free time now that applications are done), but in looking at last year's forum, it looks like 286 people applied R1, and 42 (15%) got interview invites. For this year, 374 people applied R1, so if our sample size is large enough to be consistent year-over-year, then about 56 people should be getting invites. Although we're about 50% through the time period for invites to be released, only 11 or 12 people have received invites so far (3%). Again, if our sample size is representative, then that would suggest that the majority of invites are yet to come out, even though we're half way through the invite time window. Perhaps this is just rationalization for false hope, haha!

Thanks boulderbiker, but I unfortunately think there is an error in this analysis in that people often join the forum after receiving an invite or even acceptance to meet other people in the class. It's very difficult to tell if we are on track to last year without the people who joined the forum late in the application process.

I'm still holding out hope, but I don't think 15% of our current 374 will get invites (hope I'm wrong!).

I also agree with Ziggman - if you look on the HBS board, there were a lot of similar analyses done after the first wave of interview, but all arriving to a flawed conclusion. Let's hope for the best - remember that even after interview, Stanford only takes 6%... I'm sure we'll be in good company if we're among the 94% rejected.

Guys, don't stress too much. I'm a reapplicant; was waitlisted at both Stanford and Wharton last year after interviews.

Last year I got Stanford and whartons invite both fairly early in the process.

This year I didn't get whartons invite until the very last day of the window (yesterday). Lucky for me I didn't check gmatclub too much else I would've gone insane.

Still haven't heard from Stanford but I'm not the least bit worried - it's not over till it's over. You guys shouldn't be worried either!

or this year's gmatclub sample is different. wharton's first page only shows 21% round 1 interviews while last year's shows 38%..

Here is my "two cents" - they go through industry by industry. It doesn't make sense that it would be random. Despite their comments that they don't have quotas on industries, the reality is there are reasonable limits for a class of 400. The best way to compare candidates is by reviewing people in similar jobs right next to each other, otherwise it just becomes too random and inconsistent. For example, on this chain it seemed on day 1 they dished out a number of consulting interviews, however I haven't heard of many consulting interviews since then. I know of a few other people in consulting who received interviews that first day.

I happen to be a consultant. Can someone please tell me I am wrong here?!? Would really appreciate it ;)

Hey thanks for the input, is this your own analysis or from any reliable source?
but I went to the HBS outreach and heard similar comments from their AO, they said they don't have certain quota for certain nationality, but candidates in same industry compete in same pool internationally. I just have one question here: how about those career switchers: e.g. Engineer in the past but aiming to go IBD?
and how about people like myself who have mixture of industry in W/E: (lawyer then general management) ?

This is purely my own analysis. I don't want to throw people off, but I just don't see any other way they go through these stacks. We have proven on this thread that its not when you submit, it's not alphabetical, and geography (at least in the US) doesn't seem to be a common thread. For every school you pick your industry in a drop-down box. That is searchable, and based on a very tiny sample size, my guess is this is how they would do it.

GSB might bucket candidates by industry, but the timing of interview invitations certainly does not indicate that to be the case among the many applicants who I know. Invites for private equity applicants have been scattered throughout the notification period -- even within the same group at the same firm.
