Starting a new business [#permalink]
08 Feb 2006, 06:40
Hi,
I've always been passionate about entrepreneurship and I'm finally starting my own business this year! I initially started with a startup company and was with the company for the past 5 years. Now, I have built a team and we are going to start a business that will be in direct competition with the one that I was prevoiusly employeed in. How would this look in the eyes of the admissions board??? How does the admissions board generally perceive entrepreneurship in regards to career experience in comparison to the more typically MBA career path (e.g. Consulting, I-banking, etc..) ?
Lastly, I graduated from a relatively an unknown Undergrad and didn't do much in school b/c I was working. Graduated with about 3.5 and recently scored a 700 on the GMAT's. I have been with only 1 company post graduation and as you know, will be starting a new company shortly. Do I stand a chance at the Ultra Elite schools? I'm targeting: Harvard, UPenn, Cornell, Columbia, MIT, NYU, Berkeley, Stanford.
Any advice/feedback will be very much appreciated!!! Thank you.

Don't worry about the unkonown undergrad. WHat you've done is far more important than where you've worked or gone to school.
Re: enterpreneurship, adcomms look at it very favorably. But, you'll need to eb able to explain why you want to go to b-school right when you're starting a company. They'll wonder how committed you actually are to your new business.

Scott,
Do you think I have a fighting chance to get into the aforementioned Ultra Elite schools?
Thanks.
