Starting GMAP prep [#permalink] New post 27 Aug 2012, 06:14
Hey guys,
I finally decide to start prepping for the GMAT after following this forum already for some time. I am planning on taking the GMAT somewhere in December.

Progress till date:
• 17/08 - Diagnostic test: scored ‘average’ on all topics except for CR where I scored ‘Above average’
• 18/08 - GMAT prep 1: 530 (Q36 V26) – rather disappointed by the result. I realize I have a long way to go in order to reach my target score of 650+
• 25/08 - OG Problem Solving questions: 185/230 (overall 80%). The great excel file on this forum allowed me to split up my score by difficulty level. I scored 92% on the easy questions, 78% on the medium questions and 70% on the hard questions.

I am planning on starting with the DS questions from the OG in combination with the Manhattan guides.
At the moment, I am focussing on the quant part and hope to achieve a solid score (45+). Once I feel confident with obtaining a solid quant score I start with verbal.
Do you guys find this a good approach and do you think it is possible to obtain a 650+ based on my realized results till date?
Thanks for your support!

HI,

I have written a post on gmatclub regarding how to do gmat preparations(link in my signature)
Yes its very much possible to achieve a score of 45+! You just need to keep practicing!

Follow a theory -practice- theory cycle.
1. Take a topic
2. Read the theory
3. Go to grockit and do easy questions or go to gmatclub tags (link in my signature) and do 500/600 level questions on that topic
4. If you do good then move to medium difficulty else continue with easy problems.
5. IF you do good then move to hard problems or go back to theory.
6. Once you are done then move to the next topic.

Prepare a progress chart (day-by-day) (topic-by-topic) progress. Something like this
Prepare a xls sheet (topic by topic).. and keep a track of your progress on a daily basis. Use color coding (Red,Orange,Green).
Red: You are weak in theory - brush up your concepts.
Orange - Done with theory but weak in application of the concepts
Green - Done with the topic

Once you are done with the theory then start taking mock tests and prepare an error log (you can search in gmatclub for error logs)

Good Luck for your preparations!
Hope it helps!
