Hi all. First off I want to thank the GMATClub forum for all their helpful tips. I was browsing this forum all last year when I was applying, and now I'm in the Stern class of 2014. We're a month into school and its been a great experience. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. One element that is solely unique to the Stern MBA is the opportunity to specialize in Luxury Marketing. For all of you who are interested in a career in the Luxury & Retail sectors, Stern's Luxury & Retail Club is presenting its annual conference next Friday. It's a great opportunity to hear successful professionals (there are a few CEOs) speak about the industry, network, or immerse yourself in Stern culture for the day. It could be a great speaking point if you plan to apply to Stern. More info and ticket information here: https://nyustern.campusgroups.com/larc/ ... 3048d70a60

There seems to be very little activity on this thread considering the number of ppl applying. Would love to know where everyone is with their apps? I for one haven't started. I'm going to submit add mid December.

I had planned on Round 2 but with my Fuqua app set to be submitted shortly and my deferral from Kellogg from Rd1 to Rd2, I just may be able to squeeze in the Stern application by the Round 1 deadline. Still a longshot though. Interesting how inactive this thread is. Could NYC's absurd cost of living be deterring more prospective students? I currently live in NYC and yes, the thought of paying this city's rent on top of losing my full-time income and piling on student debt makes me seriously ill. That might be why I also haven't touched Stern's application yet.

Hi everyone, first post on the gmatclub! Sorry I'm still learning all the terms that people use on here! I just got back from Discover Stern Fall Diversity Weekend. It was amazing! Lots of cool activities and an in depth look into how they evaluate potential candidates. They use a very holistic approach, as you may have already heard. They seem very willing to give people interviews even if their essays and GMAT's aren't too strong. The prospective students were REALLY cool and I really hope most of them end up at NYU next year! I look forward to posting here more often!
Is anybody applying through the Consortium?

Anyone know if NYU will accept GRE after you've taken the GMAT? I know Columbia doesn't accept GRE if you've taken the GMAT once, so just want to see if NYU will accept that.

I'm pretty sure they do. I know you can submit additional scores and their adcom seems open to getting as much information about you as they can, at least imo. Posted from my mobile device

Hi Everyone, would using a traditional essay approach for essay #3 (personal expression) be in a disadvantage position? I really know dont have the time or the talent to use video/audio or powerpoint/artwork. Have you seen people get in by using a traditional essay approach for essay #3?

It's perfectly fine to use a "normal" essay. If Stern didn't want people to turn in essays, they wouldn't include it as an option. You just have to make sure that whatever manner you choose for this essay, you have to make it personal and creative in your own right. Show the unique person that you are. Y so low posts? There's no additional thread -- this is it. It's been pretty quiet in general, but most schools' threads started picking up around deadline dates and interview invites. I'd expect Stern to start picking up soon -- I'm sure once November 1 hits, that "far off" R1 deadline of November 15 won't feel so far away anymore. Posted from my mobile device

What would you say sets Stern apart from Columbia? Students typically live around campus. However, this depends on whether you already have family/partners. There are a lot of people who commute from Jersey or stay away from campus in one of the Burrows. I agree, the cost of living is atrocious. But you are paying for Access! This has been the most important tool for networking. At Stern, you are more connected to the business world than any other school. For your last question, I will tell you two things for now - The NYU Stern application, interview and post-admit communication was more personalized than any other school. For Stern, you are NOT just another admit. Also, Stern places more emphasis on the EQ (i know it sounds like a stupid term). This EQ is nothing both how social, friendly, down-to-earth and normal you are. Just to add to this, I'm another current student and I went to a joint Stern / Columbia recruiting event the other day and Stern's community definitely seems tighter knit than Columbia's. And I'd second the access but point out that this is a double edged sword. Yes you get access but it does mean you have to attend a lot of events (probably over a dozen a week if you're recruiting for consulting or banking) and spend a lot of time interacting with these companies. I'm sure this is the same everywhere but the level is higher at Stern than anywhere else (apart from Columbia) because of the location. I'm definitely happy with my choice in coming to Stern. The people, both faculty and students, are great as are the facilities and opportunities. And if you have any questions on my experiences of applying or actually being here let me know and I'll try and answer.

Hope you're safe, Telamon. Lower Manhattan is a disaster right now. To those applying R1 or have general questions, please try not to contact Stern this week. NYC is more or less shut down for the next few days in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. In the mean time, feel free to post any questions here and we'll try to answer as best we can. Hello, it's great to have current students supporting us in the process, thanks! I had a couple of questions for the current students: 1) In my opinion the Collaborative community at Stern is something that both distinguishes the school and brings a lot of value to the MBA. According to your experience, do you really feel cooperation more than competition? 2) I think the DBi program is really exciting. Have you met any second-year student who joined it? Any feedback? Thanks a lot!

I wanna do in round 2 but worried... I'm not international, so anyone else with more experience about this, please chime in! Ideally, every school wants you to apply as early as your application is ready to be submitted -- this does not mean the earliest round available, but the earliest round where you feel you have put together an application that shows you in your best light. That being said, I've heard most schools encourage, if not require, international applicants to apply BEFORE the last round so you still have time to get your visa. For NYU that would be in either R1 or R2 so you should be fine

The NYU Stern website has been down for a few days now. With NYU closed all through the week, is it fair to assume that the Round One deadline may be extended?
