Stern (NYU) 2013 - Calling All Applicants

Just got an interview invite as well. Looking at the website, there's still plenty of slots available between now and the 27th, so I wouldn't worry yet if you haven't received an invite, they're clearly taking their time rolling them out.

Hard to tell you that, but I would say that chances are starting to decrease. I think they sent invites to several people (even internationals). I was not invited yet either.
I'm in NYC because of another interview. I had the chance to talk to some current students and they usually admit 4 people from my country. They've invited 4 people last round and admitted 2 of them. This round, they've already invited other 4 and have already interviewed (and admitted) one of them. I visited the campus today and there was a lot of internationals interviewing. Admissions do a good job trying to do a good mix of internationals, so I would speculate that they will admit 4 people from my country again.

I would advice you to do the same as me: try not to think much about that, knowing that the chances are low now.
This is just my speculation, but I'm trying to show you some facts and some conclusions I'm having based on such facts.

Echoing Ata and Alpa- I wouldn't worry too much about the conciseness of the interview. Mine was only 25 minutes also, and that included my questions for him at the end. I really felt that I didn't do particularly well, but I was admitted on Monday so there you go. I also heard back extremely fast- I interviewed on 2/26 and heard back on 3/4 so good luck to those waiting!

If I get the Consortium fellowship at Tuck, I will probably go there. I like NYU a lot, and I was honest when I told them I would choose NYU over Columbia given the choice, but Tuck will probably work better for my family. Students at Stern give me the "I want to party in NYC" vibe and that is perfectly understandable, but it just seemed like partners weren't as important at Stern as they are at Tuck. I'm getting married soon and I'd like a community where my wife will feel welcome as well. Tuck made her feel very welcome.

Stern students definitely seem much nicer than Columbia students. Columbia students gave me a bad vibe. I guess it's the difference between Columbia and NYU. Columbia is a self-contained fortress in Manhattan. NYU is part of Manhattan. As a native New Yorker, I like NYU's approach to the city much more.

Interview Notice: 2/14

Acceptance: 3/20

In my case, it was an e-mail telling me my status had been updated rather than a phone call. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Hi Daniel,

All schools perform a background check prior to enrollment as far as I know. Typically they just confirm that you have worked where you say you've worked, that your academic records are correct (you graduated from where you say you did), and they might check in with your recommenders to confirm that they did in fact write your recommendations. It is very rare for acceptances to be taken away because of the background check, you would have to have blatantly lied on your application about something. There is a thread discussing the Kroll background check services that describes in more detail what exactly they do when performing the background check.

I disagree on the L train point! I love the L train... but steer clear of the G. I live in Williamsburg. Would love to stay in the area for school but there really aren't any good steals (rent-wise). Anyone, feel free to PM me about apartment hunting. I've lived in Murray Hill/Kips Bay, East Village/Union Square, Greenpoint and Williamsburg.

Interviewed on 4/16. Accepted today. Now waiting for Financial Aid information. Love this school, but waiting to see if I can afford to go there!
