Re: Sticky posts - your opinion requested [#permalink]
(shameless plug for the vault :P) I personally like how the vault is evolving. More and more links in there now to guide people, even when they ask a question that has been discussed to death in the past.

I believe that stickies are necessary for certain threads to "prime the pump" and get the discussion started. After a while, if it's a popular thread, it can just be linked in the vault and unstickied.

The announcements are good for threads that you often use to check on others.

I really like the profile page too. Thanks to last year's class, I'm glad we started all the profiles, admit/dings, and collections early. There are SO MANY profiles in the "Comprehensive Admit/Ding" thread it's great!

Too many stickies...it's not easy on the eyes.

If they cannot be reduced, I would welcome a line or visible break between the stickies and the regular topics. That would really help you go quickly to the standard posts.

I find myself going to "View your posts" very often, so I dont have to deal with the onslaught of topics in the regular view. I tend to look for the dates posted, so you get confused as stickies can be recent or quite outdated, and then the regular topics begin with the most recent on top.

Does that make any sense?

Thanks for caring, praet.

I was always of the thought that sticky's should have an expiration date. Or maybe, if possible, number of unique views causes it to expire. Just a thought.

yeah, what if we set it to expire if it hasn't gotten a unique view in a week or two? Or it hasn't gotten a post for 1 month?

Just some suggestions.

How will you turn it back on?

How about a separate forum that has retired stickys sortable by date/unique views/replies etc?

For now, I moved most of the sticky posts to the vault.

I will let kryzak decide how he wants to organize the posts in that forum.

Re: Sticky posts - your opinion requested [#permalink]
Praet, I would recommend one of 2 things:

1. Create a subforum within the Knowledge Vault where old stickies can rest in peace.

OR

2. Since most of the stickies have found a place in the Knowledge Vault, they can be "unstickied" and disappear into the general forum until someone finds it through the knowledge vault again. That was the original intention of the Vault anyways, right? :)

Let me know which one you prefer. I probably prefer the 2nd one. Maybe I'll note which links in the vault used to be stickies.
