Strategy Evaluation (My first post) [#permalink] New post 16 Sep 2012, 13:16
Hey everyone!

I think that it's time for me to post my first post here at the forum. I've read threads here daily for the last month and I must say that I love gmatclub! Thanks to all awesome people in the community!
My feeling is that this post will be quite long, I hope that's okay with everyone. I'll try to first give a short summary of my background, then describe my strategy and ask my questions. As much as this post is a call for help, it's also a open discussion about the gmat, strategies and the preparation.

I'm from Sweden, studying an international bachelor in economics (second of three years). My goal with my studies is to be able to continue my education at a good business/economics school, and for that I'll need a good GMAT score (and yes, even some MSc in international econ requires GMAT instead of GRE).

My goal is to beat 90% of the test takers and score above the magic seven. Here is my strategy:

I will start by give you my book list.

1. All MGMAT
2. OG 12th
3. OG Quant
4. OG Verbal
5. Kaplan 800

Right now I'm going through the MGMAT guides. I'm studying 1 hour each day, and my intention is to do this during the semester. When school finally is over and I got more time I'll take the gmat prep. as my work during the xmas break (6hours per day).

My strategy is to study the fundamentals and the concepts in the MGMAT guides first. When I'm done with them, the repetition of the strategic part begins and I will try to apply the strategies on real GMAT problems. Doing as much OG problems that I can, and keeping an error log.
When I feel more comfortable with my knowledge I'll start doing the CATs.

My philosophy is that to master gmat you have to recognize all types of questions that the GMAT consists of and know the strategy for each and every one of them.
When I'm done with my prep. I would like to be able to draw a map label all the question groups and knowing the right strategy for them.

How much am I going to study?
1hour x 30 days x 3,5 months + 6hours x 30 = 185 hours in total.

That sound quite a lot, and it should be enough right?

I would love to hear your inputs, advice and ideas about my strategy.

PS. I will of course read as much as I can on the forum, look at youtube videos, etc. etc. that's included in the strategy ;)

Many thanks! And I hope I haven't violated any rules on the forum!
