actually what confuses me most is the last sentence of the stimulus "Yet surely if we did that, we would threaten the free flow of ideas ..." i just couldn't understand how the Dean of Students can arrive at "threaten the free flow of ideas" from "endorse verbal harassment"

Some help please.

Hi Jason,

Let me see if I can help.

I think what the Dean is trying to say is that if we condone harrasment, we're endangering free speech. BECAUSE if you can go around threatening people, they are much less likely to speak their mind.

For example, let's say the Football Offensive line starts walking around campus harrasing people who have a certain point of view - they're less likely to want to speak out...
