Study abroad transcripts [#permalink] New post 06 Nov 2013, 10:18
The Tuck admissions FAQ says students should submit their abroad transcripts. When I've applied to other graduate programs in the past, it was only ever necessary to submit an abroad transcript if the courses and grades did not appear on your regular undergrad transcript. They do on mine, with the names of the courses, and the grades listed as pass/fail. The name of the abroad program appears above that.

Is this good enough for Tuck? I'm afraid to submit the transcript from my abroad program because all my courses were in French, and the grades would hurt my GPA pretty bad. It would kill my chances of being accepted. Does anyone have first hand knowledge on this?

Hey there,

The short answer is that's fine. The longer answer is when we have clients that run into this issue it is generally not for the reason you mention. It's usually they didn't get one at the other institution (because of the way the university partnership was structured) or they can't easily request one, etc.

However, if your story abroad institution appears as a section on your transcript along with the grades, that will suffice. All you need to do is explain this in your optional essay. State that the other program was conducted on a pass fail basis, that the partnership automatically transferred the credits to your institutions registrar, and that this is the record you have available.

It's that simple! You're not the first person to have studied abroad pass/fail :)
