Studying for about a year...Need advice. [#permalink]

I've been studying quant hard for about a year, and not seeing super improvement. I believe my problem lies with bad understanding of exponents and roots. These seem to be heavily tested on the GMAT. Any advice where I can get smart on specifically these types of problems. I big issue is when needing to factor out these types of problems to solve.
It is obvious that you miss the very basics of algebra. Have you tried MGMAT books? But, I think it is better to start studying algebra from the very beginning. Buy a book, learn the rules, and practise practise practise. Do as many problems as you can but before understand the concepts.
