Suggestions? [#permalink] New post 03 Sep 2010, 16:35
Im 21 and looking to go to B school in about 3-4 years. I'm looking for suggestions to strengthen my resume, maybe a unique extracurricular, let me know.

21, caucasian, male
Graduated good undergraduate school in only 3 years
3.42 GPA majored in business administration
A few awards, nothing that spectacular
While in school interested in boxing, rowing, and finance committee
I know some Chinese and I am hoping to become fluent in a few years.

Work experience: Working as a trading clerk then a trader at a Chicago proprietary trading firm for the next 3-4 years.

I am interested in finance, most likely VC. Hoping to go to a major Chicago school, Booth or Kellogg.

Any information would be great, thanks.

I am from Chicago as well and for us Chicagoans, getting into Kellogg or Booth is slightly harder than other candidates (based on my personal observation). I see your youth as a standout feature, typically Kellogg take students with a little more work experience than yourself, but if you demonstrate maturity and vigorous zest towards a career in Finance you'll be able to distinguish yourself from the rest of the pack. In my opinion an extracurricular activity with a global focus shows that you have a rather big picture orientation at such a young age. It could be as mundane as fundraising for recent Flood victims in China and Pakistan, giving English language instruction lessons to foreign students in the US or online. Good luck with you applications

First gain some valuable experience and the same time try to do some special things and activities that in the future will strengthen your applications.

Good luck
