Re: Suits to pre-application school/class visits? [#permalink]
Yep. Get hold of rhyme if he is available. He will show you a good time. Especially now that he has free booz coming in from his beer company internship.

Also, depending on what your post-MBA focus is, I will drop in to the appropriate research centers and see if someone there can provide you personalized info.

I am heading to ChiGSB for a visit on Friday and also curios... if no jacket, is wearing a tie normal?

On a similar vein, when I visit GSB, is there anything in particular is make sure to catch (building, class, certain adcom member?)

Thanks!

I did an 8 day, 6 school tour in October. The nicest clothes I brought were khakis and button up shirts. I was fine. Some people did wear suits, but most people did not.

When I visited HBS the day before my interview I wore khakis and a button down.... one guy walked in with a suit and said "I'm here for the tour" and the receptionist replied "Do you have an interview today?" he said "No, just the tour" - the receptionist gave him this look like he was crazy (admittedly it was 25 degrees outside). You don't need a suit for a campus visit/tour - only for the interview.

For the most part, I would say slacks and a dress shirt, maybe even a jacket. But, if you can, get confirmation from the school that it's not business attire. As for presentations and receptions, every single one that I went to, the majority of attendees were in suits--including myself. I would have felt a bit underdressed had I not worn a suit; especially since a lot of alumni show up to those things straight from work and in business attire.
