Hi
I have a very good profile with great extra curriculars, but i have a low CGPA.
Gender: Male
Country: India
Education: BE Computer Science with an overall CGPA 6.81/10 (my scores have been in an increasing order from 1st to last semester)
I have heard that if i take up some courses in mathematics at some community college or some online courses, and score well in it then it will be of great help to my acads.
I have shaped a great profile with excellent internships, project, and entrepreneurship initiative. Only problem is my low CGPA, though i have a been actively involved in extra curriculars during college that i could not completely focus on acads.
Studying at an IVY is my dream... my whole profile is really good except for this acads part i feel.
I am currently working. Please suggest what can i do to overcome this. I plan to apply in 2014.
Thanks and regards
Arjun,
Low GPA might raise some questions such as 'Will this candidate survive the academic rigor of the program?'. The easiest way to counter that would be through a great GMAT score (720-750 range would be ideal). If you get a good GMAT score with good scores in all the sections then you don't need to worry about taking any courses in community college. Moreover, you are an engineer .... there isn't much value add if you take some maths courses.
As far as your GPA is concerned, utilize the optional essay to explain what caused it. Did you focus on co-curricular and made a mark? Where there any other pressing issues which forced you away from academics. Don't leave this concern unanswered.
In the end, your application/essays should be in great shape if you are thinking about top schools.
We had a client who barely scratched CGPA of 6 and is now a student in top business school. This year we have a client who is in 5+ range (remember five point someone?). Please contact us if you have further questions or if you would want to schedule a free initial consultation.
