Hi guys, my first post so bear with me. Hope this isn't the wrong place to post this... if it is I apologize.
Okay, so I'm not sure how often this comes up, but I'm a senior at University of Florida, 20 years old, and I'm currently pursuing a degree in Microbiology. My mind is so business oriented, and I'm always thinking of money (aren't we all). I hate having money sitting in the bank, I'm always buying and selling on eBay and craigslist which isn't really a business but I like to invest in whatever I feel I can turn a profit from. I'm also always reading about stocks, I've lost a couple hundred dollars in the stock market but learn more and more everyday. What scares me the most is how fun I find this.
I originally was going to pursue pharmacy but left it because it is extremely difficult to open up an independent pharmacy here in florida. Was going to pursue medicine but I couldn't stand to study 7-8 years of something I didn't have my heart set on, only for the prestige, and then finally dentistry was (so I thought) the best thing for me, because of the opportunities to open up a business and run it are far more available and it's only 4 years after undergrad (vs the 7-8 for medicine).
I've regretted not getting a degree in finance for undergrad and I'm wondering if it's too late for me. Long story short, my parents pressured me into the health field.
My main issue is I'd like job security, I've always thought 'hey, business isn't something you should study, waste of time, go out there and gain real world experience because books can't teach you that' I've taken like 2-3 intro to business classes and no offense but its a joke.
I also don't mind moving across the entire United States to find work, or moving all the way to Dubai to find work, I just hear all these horror stories about people unable to find work anywhere. Sending applications out and not getting a response.) But then it hit me, if I go to a good school like top 30-40 in the nation, wouldn't job security not be an issue?
Also is it too late for me? My High School gpa was utter crap. In college my gpa is a 3.5-3.6 science and 3.7 overall i believe. I don't care how hard I have to work, what I have to do to get there. I'm going to research all I can tonight, but I thought I'd post on here see if I get any helpful responses.
I've perused through the site a little but if you feel there is a thread I missed that is similar to my situation I'd love a link, also thanks to everyone who made it this far reading I know it's not the most interesting thing you'd want to read this late at night but I'm seriously clueless right now and doing some serious soul searching.
