I would go for C ..in A and B "which" doesnot correctly points to the effect and in E that doesnot correctly points to the effect ..

C correctly identifies the cause ... and the dependent clause "according to scientists" is correctly placed .

D is incorrect because "says the scientists" is misplaced .

I chosed C as well but despite ipc302's explanation, I can't really get why A and B are wrong and C is right.
