Tanked. 650 to 580. What am I doing wrong? [#permalink] New post 11 Feb 2012, 22:08
Quick recap: I started studying like crazy over Christmas, and have continued to study 2-3 hours a day on average. D-day is March 2.

On the Kaplan GMAT practice test on January 28, I scored 640 (Q 39/V 42). Took CAT 1 on February 7. Scored 650 (Q 36/V 48). Obviously my verbal scores are about as good as they're going to get. My problems has essentially been quant, which I have been hitting relentlessly in my study. I finished QR a few weeks ago, have been working my way through OG (finished the problem solving a few days ago, have been working my way through data sufficiency, have been meeting with a tutor - just trying to throw everything I can think of at the challenge).

Today, took CAT 2. Last time I really ran out of time towards the end, had to "skip" (i.e. mark at random) five or six problems towards the end because I just ran out of time. So after looking at the situation and visiting with my tutor, I decided to alter my approach to quant: be much more diligent as far as time management, be willing to sacrifice problems that I clearly won't solve in the time allotted. The result? Scored 580 (Q34, V 35).

Now, I'm quite aware that I obviously screwed it up on verbal (I got thirsty and developed a rather bad headache partway through, so I think I just ran out of gas). And if forced, I'd obviously rather have a bad day now and not on March 2. But what do I need to do differently on quant? Who can I talk to who can show me what I need to do differently? I've been giving it as much time as I possibly can. I now have less than three weeks to fix this. Help?

Check the strategies part of manhattan gmat quant - advanced.

Though the guide is typically meant for those who are already scoring 44/45 in Quant, but believe me the strategy part of the guide is worth for anyone.

i am also struggling for gmat :) so i am not a big 700 scorer :) , but ya i was also facing prob in quant... and this book worked me for strategy part of quant

thanks
