D is my choice.

A them has fingerlike projections poking through the opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore
- OUT, creates a run-on sentence

B them that have fingerlike projections that poke through an opening located at the top of the taste bud, which they call the taste pore
- problem came in the last restrictive clause. here the which, starting a non-restrictive clause seems to indicate the taste pore is called taste bud

C which has fingerlike projections poking through the opening, called the taste pore, located at the top of the taste bud.
- Same as A...

D which having fingerlike projections that poke through an opening, which is called the taste pore, located at the top of the taste bud
- good. keep this

E which have fingerlike projections that are poking through an opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore
- same as A

C which has fingerlike projections poking through the opening, called the taste pore, located at the top of the taste bud

Should be C. Each of Which is correct and the opening is correctly modified in the sentence.

In D, which is used in multiple contexts with 'having'. C is cleaner.

i must say these Pearson VUE questions don't provide "clear" answers. For this one i'll stick with C.

Another vote for C.
A)"called the taste pore" modifies opening, should be closer to opening.
B)"have" should be "has"
C)I do not see anything wrong with it.
D)awkward structure
E)same reason as B)

Ah, I see!
So in A: each of them has fingerlike projections poking through the opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore
"taste pore" is about "the opening". Thanks!

WOW.

I am amazed.... I can never accept C as the OA.

Can someone explain me how can C be right.

Here is the structure of C

First IC
subject Taste buds
Verb are
predicate onion-shaped structures with between 50 and 100 taste cells
comma ,

another IC

subject each of them
verb has
predicate fingerlike projections poking through the opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore.

SO we have 2 IC's joined with Comma in C.

Can someone shed any light...
