(D)from highly paid professionals, whose placement makes higher profits for the agencies and whose requests
(E)from the higher profits made in placing highly paid professionals, requests for whom
Does anybody know why the answer is E, not C or D. by the way, what's the meaning of request for whom in the choice E?

C) look at the last piece of the sentence.
whose requests have increased in the recent wave of corporate takeovers.
It says the requests made by the professionals have increased. This is incorrect. The stem is saying that deamnd for highly paid professions has gone up. Another way of saying demand has gone up is by saying "requests for whom have increased"
"whom" is the object form of "who". The professionals are the object of the sentence.
D) Same problem as C

I think the question says the agencies benefit not only from the demand of clerical workers but also from the demand of professionals.
Therefore, the requests made by the professionals have increased is correct.
However, I still don't know what's wrong with choice C and D.
does anybody have answers?

demand of professionals means demands made by professionals.
It should be demand for professionals

I think E is correct because:
Benefit is from "demand of ..."
and Benefit is from "higher profits made ..."
It is not the request or professionals but rather the profit from them, that is benefitial. And "whom" is correct.

The question is what in earth who makes the profit. Agencies or professions ?
answer C tells that professionals make profits while answer E tells that angencies make profits by placing professionals who have requests.
Is that right?

Hi
E is the best answer.
It is the organisation that makes profit, by placing the highly qualified people. Its like a head-hunter. These head-hunter search for people and place them in the firms and get money from them. Hence the organisation makes money by placing these professional. The the demand for these professional had increased.

this is a classic example of not only .... but also.. coordinating conjunction's
GMAT Testers mainly test on parallelism and tense errors on these type of questions. Only choice C & E maintains the parallelism by using the same structure by using from the... (get the clue from the non underlined part)
but C has tense error, only E sticks to simple past in not only .... but also...
