Test -15, Q 6

Advertisement: For sinus pain, three out of four hospitals give their patients Novex. So when you want the most effective painkiller for sinus pain, Novex is the one to choose.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the advertisement’s argument?
(A) Some competing brands of painkillers are intended to reduce other kinds of pain in addition to sinus pain.
(B) Many hospitals that do not usually use Novex will do so for those patients who cannot tolerate the drug the hospitals usually use.
(C) Many drug manufacturers increase sales of their products to hospitals by selling these products to the hospitals at the lowest price the manufacturers can afford.
(D) Unlike some competing brands of painkillers, Novex is available from pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.
(E) In clinical trials Novex has been found more effective than competing brands of painkillers that have been on the market longer than Novex.

What an annoying question!! How is C the OA? It is just too broad in scope. It would be the ideal choice had it mentioned a word about Novex.

C) Many drug manufacturers increase sales of their products to hospitals by selling these products to the hospitals at the lowest price the manufacturers can afford. --OK,so what? How did we conclude that Novex is one of those drugs ?

If so much can be read into Choice C - that Novex is the drug of choice cuz it just so happens to be one in the list that Choice C so lovingly indicates, then Choice D can be equally stretched to assume that its prescribed due to the ease of obtaining the drug rather than its effectiveness..

I am not advocating choice D...but I sure cant understand how so many of you can associate the specific brand of Novex to Choice C.

IMO B..

Many hospitals use novex because there are patients who cannot tolerate other drugs.
The other drugs must be the most effective and probably that s why these are the hospitals' first choice.

This clearly shows that NOVEX is not the most effective.
