A. what they now commonly call – Is it only called by “ancient Anasazi” Wrong context
B. a plant that they now commonly call – ‘plant’ is redundant
C. now commonly called
D. and is now commonly called
E. which it is now commonly called – which it - redundant

Ok so this is how I thought.

A - Wrong Context
B,E - Redundant words.

Left with C & E.
Comparing C & E
C is a much better construction.

Hence C is the answer
