I recall from my own experience
the toughest Qs on D day were of smallest size

The aristocratic values expressed in the writings of Marguerite Yourcenar place her within the French
classical tradition, as does her passionate interest in history, particularly Roman history.

(A) as does
(B) so do
(C) as do
(D) so is the case with
(E) similarly, does

I would vote for A correct as it is.

as does subsitute for her passionate interest in history places her within the French classical tradition.

B is wrong. So do is not the correct idiom
C is wrong. passionate interest is singular, do does not agree
D and E are wordy.

No. 4>The aristocratic values expressed in the writings of Marguerite Yourcenar place her within the French
classical tradition, as does her passionate interest in history, particularly Roman history.

(A) as does
(B) so do
(C) as do
(D) so is the case with
(E) similarly, does

A .... because "passionate interest" is singular

Agree with A.

X place her with in the French, as does <place her within the French > Y

X place her with in the French, as Y does <place> her within the French

GUd question Nitya. Do post it in the thread as u quoted.
Here we are comparing actions hence as is appropriate. passionate interest is singular , hence does should cum.
Hence A is the best

"A" is fine. Good question! Seems simple, but makes you feel worried.

Hi, guys. it should be "D". Choices A,B,C and E make no sense logically since they all indicate that her passionate in roman history place her in the French tradition.

The takeaway is that "do" is used for plural subjects and "does" is used for singular subjects.

"as does her passionate interest in history, particularly Roman history"

If the choice B would be "so does", then which one will be correct "AS DOES" or "SO DOES"? My understanding is that "AS" can be used to start a clause. Further, there is a comma before "AS", so is this underlined portion acting as a clause?

bit late to realize, A is correct. "as" should be used to represent the likeness with the first part of the sentence. "does" is needed because it is 3rd person.

Is my view correct?

pkmme,

According to me,it is based on the underlying priniciple that the comparisons must be structurally and logically parallel. It is Like X.... as Does.... Y.

my rationale for A is that 3rd person needs "does" . "do" is used for 1st and 2nd persons.
