The average level of fat in the blood of people suffering from acute cases of disease W is lower than the average level for the population as a whole. Nevertheless, most doctors believe that reducing blood-fat levels is an effective way of preventing acute W.

The disease actually absorbs fat, reducing fat blood levels in the patients, perhaps even below the average.
(I personally wanted to pick an answer that claimed that the population was abnormally fat)

Straight C - It corroborates the fact that high levels of fat play an instrumental role in the progression from latent to acute W. Naturally when acute W finally occurs most of the fat in the blood has already been used up.
