The average score on a test taken by 10 students was X. If [#permalink]

The average score on a test taken by 10 students was X. If the average score for 5 of the students was 8, what was the average score, in terms of x, for the remaining 5 students who took the test?
FYI - answer is 2x-8, but I am having a mental block right now!
THANKS!

This post received KUDOS
(X1 + X2 + X3 +.. X10) / 10 = X means (X1+X2+X3+.. +X10) = 10x
similarly (X1+X2+.. +X5) /5=8 means (X1+X2+.. +X5) =40
(X6 + .. X10) = 10x-40
Avg = 10x-40/5 = 2x-8
