The "cheetah" is used as Singular ( clear from subj-verb agreement.. cheetah ... seems)....

E has used the objective pronoun their... I think this is wrong.

My pick is D

a) because, resulting from intensive inbreeding genrations ago,
because and as a reult from are redundant

b) because, as a result of intensive inbreeding genrations ago,
same as A
c) because they inbred intensively genrations ago so that
who is they...No antecedent
d) because there was intensive inbreeding generations ago and
BINGO though passive and lousy
e) as a result of their intensive inbreeding generations ago, and

their doesnt have proper antecedent

Should be D

I also feel D should be correct, others have antecedent problem....but somewhere saw the answer given is B..
I am not sure whether we can use because and as a result of in the same sentence.

Any expert opinion on this question?

official answer is E

anyone can explain why?

It can't be E bcoz of "their" in it. The stem says "the species HAS so little" which means that "species" is singular

I vote for B

Simple B. I don’t know how the OA is E as in E we comparing ‘their’ with ‘the cheetah (a specie). Can someone explain?

I dont think B is right, isn't "Because" then "as a result of" redundant?

I also am picking B. I don't think "as a result of" and "because" are redundant in this context. Here's my reasoning.

The "as a result..." line is referring why there is little genetic variations.

The "because..." is referring to why the little genetic variations will cause the cheetah to extinct.

I'd go with D. B is obviously out because of redundancy

Quite tricky... was going for B initially... E is indeed the best choice. Putting "because" and "resulting from" or "as a result of" creates redundancy, so A and B are out. In C, the "so that" implies intent. In D, "there was" no chance this choice could be the best one... "there" constructions are mostly avoided in Gmatland...

Guys, redundancy is bad, of course, but E contains much worser mistake - it uses "their", while it is obvious from the stem that "cheetah" is singular.

The cheetah seems to be headed for extinction because the species as so little genetic variation, resulting from intensive inbreeding generations ago, that it is extremely vulnerable to enviornmental change.

if this statement is correct, then choice A is right.
in this, there is no problem of redundancy between because and "as a result of".

Hence Choice A
