The co-ordinates of the foot of the perpendicular from the point (2, 2) on the line y тАУ 2x тАУ 8 = 0 are

(A) (тАУ1, 6)

(B) (тАУ1, тАУ4)

(C) (тАУ2, 10)

(D) (2, 4)

(E) (тАУ2, 4)

eq given: y=2x+8
slope = 2 (y=mx+c)

the perpndicular to this will have the slope = -1/2,
b/c slope of perpendicular * slope of line = -1

eq of perpendicular: (Y-2)/(X-2) = -1/2
b/c y-y1 = m(x-x1).

solve the eq: 2Y = -X + 6

equate this in the original eq and solve for X, Y

E..

Eliminate B and C since they do not lie on the line,

calculate the slope formed by (2,2) with the rest of the points and see which one has -1/2 as the slope.
