The dancing doll line sold slightly more than $3.5 million worth of toys last year, forty percent more than the Tenny Tiny Trucks line did and nearly three times as much as the Basic Blocks line’s sales. A) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and nearly three times as much as the Basic Blocks line’s sales B) the Teeny Tiny Trucks did and nearly three times what the Basic Block’s sales were C) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly three times as much as Basic Block’s sales D) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly three times more than Basic Block’s sales E) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly three times more than the Basic Blocks line Director Joined: 04 Jan 2008 Posts: 918 Followers: 58 Kudos [?]: 280 [0], given: 17 Re: Dancing dolls [#permalink] 27 Jan 2010, 07:28 is it [Reveal] Spoiler: E ? A) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and nearly three times as much as the Basic Blocks line’s sales

B) the Teeny Tiny Trucks did and nearly three times what the Basic Block’s sales were

C) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly three times as much as Basic Block’s sales

D) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly three times more than Basic Block’s sales

E) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly three times more than the Basic Blocks line

I can eliminate D, and E for wrong comparisions ( dancing dolls sales vs Tiny trucks themselves), and B for akward construction ( what the Basic Block's sales ..)

Now it is between A and C.. both look really close but A has clear meaning (the Basic Blocks line’s sales) So I go with A.

IMO A.

I am down to just (A) and (C) as well for comparison error.

(D) and (E) are comparing the dancing doll line to the teeny tine trucks --> wrong comparison.
(B) - I don't like the construct of this sentence, though I can't really say what's exactly wrong with it.

Between (A) and (C), I went with (A) because (A) compares all the different lines of toys, whereas (C) compares the dancing doll line/teeny tiny trucks line to just the Basic Blocks' sales.

What's the OA?

Re: The dancing doll line sold slightly more than $3.5 million [#permalink] 04 Mar 2012, 14:35 i think that this is not a good question. 'three times more than' and 'three times as much as' don't mean the same. _________________ press +1 Kudos to appreciate posts Senior Manager Joined: 08 Jun 2010 Posts: 397 Location: United States Concentration: General Management, Finance GMAT 1: 680 Q50 V32 Followers: 3 Kudos [?]: 68 [0], given: 13 Re: The dancing doll line sold slightly more than$3.5 million [#permalink]  04 Mar 2012, 16:59
The problems with B, D and E have been addressed in the above posts.
The real problem is narrowed down to A and C.

C) the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly three times as much as Basic Block’s sales

In C, thit omits the Basic Block's LINES which is probably an important piece of information.
