For the ladies in the house, this is a great event that lots of GMATClubbers have attended over the years. I couldn't go as an applicant (I procrastinated too much to make any of these things!), but was involved as a student. Application deadline 11-2-09.
Hi, ladies. I hope that you all hear good news on Monday!
Just wanted to say that yes, the event is very popular. They grew it quite a bit last year just to accomodate all the interest. I think about 50% of applicants were accepted last year. And if you don't get accepted, don't NOT apply to Duke! It really is an over-subscribed event.
AND I'm excited to say that I will be attending my 3rd W4W this year! Just got the approval from work to attend as an alum, so hope to meet you there.
I have applied for the event several weeks ago and I am still waiting. Their web site says only 80 women will be invited, that doesn't sound like a large number to me. Are you implying that last year there were less than 80 women attending?
Ladies: should I apply for an interview during W4W event or not?
I don't even have GMAT score yet! I will take the test in few weeks and plan to apply in R3 in January. Right now, I am all about GMAT, so by the time I attend W4W I will have that and my resume and no essays. Although, I do know what I want to do, i.e. I have the story in my head.
I am thinking that I should probably take advantage of the interview now, instead of bitting my fingers and waiting for the invite. I can also consult with adcom, I think that is cool too.
I'm local candidate, so travel is not an issue for me.
What did you all think about the weekend event? I though that: - the event was absolutely fabulous and costly - Admission officers spent a lot of time mingling with perspective candidates. At times if felt like a day long interview, which can be only a huge advantage over people that had only regular interview with 2nd year students. - Serious overrepresentation of brand marketing people, an area that I couldn't care less about. - good food - on the average, younger candidates, not so many women from diverse background

I had an amazing time. I agree, it was like a 3-day interview; though I didn't really have a lot of contact with the admissions staff. The second year students that were directing the event were mostly marketing students, but I did randomly find a second year student who had the exact same long-term career goal as I do (something that is fairly obscure for Duke). The prospective students on the whole were great women - I disagree though, I think the backgrounds were incredibly diverse - most of the women I met were "non-traditional" applicants like myself. Very few from finance and consulting.
Overall, I did fall in love with the school and the program. I wish I would have applied in an earlier round!
