The figure above shows the shape of a brick patio. If arc AB is a semicircle and ABCD is a square, what is the perimeter of the patio?

(1) The radius of the semicircle described by arc AB is 4.

(2) The perimeter of the square ABCD is 32.

In order to find the perimeter of the patio we need

EITHER the radius of the semicircle

OR side of the square. Either of these values will give the perimeter.

Statement 1Provides Radius, Thus Sufficient

Statement 2Provides side of the square, Thus Sufficient

Answer D
