In addition to your method of checking concepts for the wrong answers, you may also like to do 20-30 questions on the same concept so that the learned concept is adequately cemented in thought process.
As far as pattern and tricks recognition are concerned, I am totally with you, rather both of them are part of the review on which we are supposed to spend more time. I believe that review is the most valuable part of the gmat learning.
