Between A and d - I'll go with A. demonstrated that capital markets are integrated (more closely) and that events may be transmitted - almost instantaneously --- parallelism.

I dunno A or D.
Elim any choices that don't use the ||ism the sentence requires: "and that". the financial crash demonstrated that... and that...

I need to discuss more on this.....
Let me slightly modify the question:
The financial crash of October 1987 demonstrated that the world’s capital markets are integrated more closely than ever before and that events in one part of the global village may be immediately transmitted to the rest of the village.
(A) integrated more closely than ever before and that
(B) closely integrated more than ever before so
(C) more closely integrated as never before while
(D) more closely integrated than ever before and that
(E) more than ever before closely integrated as
Please give reason for your choice......

My answer is D.
We can immediately eliminate B, C and E because of their parallelism issues; they dont end in 'and that'.
We can eliminate A because, it is my understanding that an adverb ('closely') has to touch the verb ('intergrated') it's modifying. I could be wrong.
What's the OA?

This question is from 1000SC, but the furst choice given is different here...
The answer was D because in choice A , 'never' was used instead of 'ever' .
I think in this case A shd be the answer

There is a typo in option 'A' instead of "ever before" it should be "never before". This question is from OG10
If there had not been any TYPO in the option 'A' then also I believe Option 'D' is better since adverb phrase may modify market instead of integreted though I am not quite sure of this

Guys,
There is no typo in this question.
I have actually taken this question from 1000 SC but have modified it little bit.
Many of us have got it right that the answer is between A and D.
And yes answer should be between A and D.
I wanted to know which one and that too with a reason.
Difference between A and D is the placement of "more closely".
In A it is placed after "integrated" and in D, it is placed before "integrated".
So which one should be right?

Well Not fully sure if my reason is correct. But I think A can be correct since "more" and "than" are closer to each other in comparison to D. Anybody support this?
So which one should be right?

The topic talks about integration and that how it has affected the markets. Since we are comparing against EVER BEFORE I guess the more closely should modify the idea of integration. So it should be "more closely integrated than ever before" . Hence it should be D.
Any takers ?

I also think so.....
This is a modified question to discuss the placement of an adverb.
In the original 1000 SC, this question has A as the OA. But the question does not have Option D. I included option D to see what you guys think should be right: A or D?

"D" because more closely integrated sounds better. You have to put words close to what they modify. "a" just sounds awkward.

I also vote for D...
the adverb "closely" should be right next to the verb "integrated" to modify it....
Also, just a side question...can someone tell me what is the subject and the verb for this question?
I am having some difficulty with SV agreement...
The financial crash of October 1987 demonstrated that the world’s capital markets are integrated more closely than ever before and that events in one part of the global village may be transmitted to the rest of the village—almost instantaneously
I have marked what I think could be the subject in red, and the verbs in yellow...this always throws me off...can someone please tell me the subject and the verb .....and why....
thanks so much.....

Infact i choose "D" for this option.
After googling a little bit on adverb placement i found that other than Adverbs of frequency all other types of adverb are placed after the Verb.
Based on that rule, "A" stands out as Adverb "closely" follows the verb integrated.

I would like to differ a bit here. For me integrated is an adjective and it modifies market
more closely is an adverb and it modifies verb are.
Therefore I will go for 'D'.

Between A and D. I pick A.
I think we need to keep main verb outside more...than.
Only degree of comparision (closely) should come between more...than.

y is d correct... since the use of subjunctives require that + simple form of verb, but later in the sentence we come across,"...part of the village "may be" ...." so it means the later part of the sentence couldn't require subjunctive.... moreover we are also required to maintain parallelism... i am bit confused... plz help
