C, even though it is in the passive voice (obviously the avianators couldn`t operate the craft).

I would like to go with B

C sounds like the animals were the first passengers from Versailles, not the first passengers ever.

B)...IMO C) distorts the meaning. x,y and z were the first passengers. C) implies that x,y and z were not the first passengers but the first that ascended from versailles.

E changes the meaning. C and D do the same because that modifies passengers and the meaning is changed. Between A and B, B is better because it is more direct.

B should be the answer.

(A) The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck, and a rooster that were ascended- Sounds awkward
(B) The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck, and a rooster that ascended- Correct
(C) A sheep, a duck, and a rooster were the first balloon passengers that ascended- Changes the meaning, they were the first passengers from Versailles?
(D) A sheep, a duck, and a rooster were the first balloon passengers to ascended- Changes the meaning, they were the first passengers from Versailles?
(E) a duck, and a rooster were the first balloon passengers ascending[/quote]- Changes the meaning, they were the first passengers from Versailles?

My answer is B

What's the OA?

I will go with B.
However, can someone explain:
(B) The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck, and a rooster that ascended

isn't that qualifying "a rooster" only. That is, only rooster was ascended from Versailles?

Thanks for the discussion.

The OA is (B).

However, my pick was (A) - passive voice.

I don't think that those animals stepped up onto the balloon on their own will, but that people brought those animals onto the balloon. Thus I thought "passive voice" would be better.

Any comments why my idea is wrong?
